چکیده
A variety of algebras is a Specht variety if all its subvarieties are finitely based. This article presents the first example of a maximal Specht variety of monoids. The existence of such an example is counterintuitive since it is long known that maximal Specht varieties of semigroups do not exist. This example permits a characterization of Specht varieties in the following four classes based on identities that they must satisfy and varieties that they cannot contain: (1) overcommutative varieties, (2) varieties containing a certain monoid of order seven, (3) varieties of aperiodic monoids with central idempotents, and (4) subvarieties of the variety generated by the Brandt monoid of order six. Other results, including the uniqueness or nonexistence of limit varieties within the aforementioned four classes, are also deduced. Specifically, overcommutative limit varieties of monoids do not exist. In contrast, the limit variety of semigroups, discovered by M.V.Volkov in the 1980s, is an overcommutative variety. 2010 Math. The Join Levels of the Trotter-Weil Hierarchy Are Decidable
The variety DA of finite monoids has a huge number of different characterizations, ranging from two-variable first-order logic FO to unambiguous polynomials. In order to study the structure of the subvarieties of DA, Trotter and Weil considered the intersection of varieties of finite monoids with bands, i.e., with idempotent monoids. The varieties of idempotent monoids are very well understood ...
متن کاملThe Join of the Varieties of R-trivial and L-trivial Monoids via Combinatorics on Words
The join of two varieties is the smallest variety containing both. In finite semigroup theory, the varieties of R-trivial and L-trivial monoids are two of the most prominent classes of finite monoids. Their join is known to be decidable due to a result of Almeida and Azevedo. In this paper, we give a new proof for Almeida and Azevedo’s effective characterization of the join of R-trivial and L-t...
متن کاملHomomorphisms and Endomorphisms in Varieties of Pseudocomplemented Distributive Lattices (with Applications to Heyting Algebras)
According to a result by K. B. Lee, the lattice of varieties of pseudocomplemented distributive lattices is the ui + 1 chain B_i C Bo C Bi C • ■ ■ C Bn C •■ • C Bw in which the first three varieties are formed by trivial, Boolean, and Stone algebras respectively. In the present paper it is shown that any Stone algebra is determined within Bi by its endomorphism monoid, and that there are at mos...
متن کاملRole of the pseudosubstrate sequence in smooth muscle myosin light chain kinase thermal stability.
Smooth muscle myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) is stable in the presence of Ca2+/calmodulin and does not undergo inactivation as reported for skeletal muscle MLCK (Kennelly, P.J., Starovasnik, M.A., Edelman, A.M., and Krebs, E.G. (1990) J. Biol. Chem. 265, 1742-1749). The 61-kDa tryptic fragment of smMLCK-(283-779) with the pseudosubstrate/calmodulin binding sequence deleted undergoes rapid ina...
متن کاملMAXIMAL PRYM VARIETY AND MAXIMAL MORPHISM
We investigated maximal Prym varieties on finite fields by attaining their upper bounds on the number of rational points. This concept gave us a motivation for defining a generalized definition of maximal curves i.e. maximal morphisms. By MAGMA, we give some non-trivial examples of maximal morphisms that results in non-trivial examples of maximal Prym varieties.
